Clone 6 Vines

So, last night's tasting sure proved that everyone has different tastes in wine. Everyone found something that they liked, even though  Bell's winemaking style wasn't for everyone. In the end, we sold about the same amount of everything. The Chardonnay was very French in style with alot of minerality and subtle Oak from French barrels.  The Sauvignon blanc also showed the subtle oak that some are not used to in this varietal. The Big Guy Red is a wine that uses a Syrah base and layers it with several Bordeaux grapes. As we were tasting, we noticed that we had inadvertently opened two different vintages and liked the 2008 much better that the 09, so we are swapping our stock for the previous vintage. It is amazing how these blends change from year to year.
The hit of the night was the Clone 6 Cabernet. Bell sources the grapes for this Cab from the Beckstoffer Georges III vineyard adjacent to Camus, so you know the quality is there. The BV vines that these vines were cloned from 30 years ago, are some of the oldest  in Napa. Only 700 six packs of this wine was produced, so we are fortunate to have a couple cases in house. We also have half bottles of clone 6 available in the dining room. Half bottles are a great option for those who want just 2 glasses of high end wine (I know, I dont get it either). For those of you who don;t know it, we have one of the finest 1/2 bottle lists anywhere. Here is the link to learn more about Bell wines.  http://www.bellwine.com/
Thanks for coming out and we look forward to seeing you on Wednesday the 20th for Chandon.
